24 August is very memorable date for me. It is the year, 1511, when Portuguese army attacked Malacca. 498 years ago, the prosperity of Malacca was invaded fiercely by Portuguese. The Portuguese started the invasion on July 25 and managed to occupy parts of Malacca on August 10. Surprisingly, the Portuguese was offered an assistance by Chinese merchants to use some of their junks as a bridgehead to enable more effective bombardment of Malacca port. Finally, Malacca was fully occupied on 24 August....many casualties.....and more importantly, the era of Muslim Sultanate and Islam in the region was brutally abused.....History tells more things to ponder......read more here
